Performance Report: Denicos Allen

In the game of football speed is the key, especially on the defensive side of the ball. With all the rage of cover two defenses that utilize smaller, but faster defenders, the desire for a physical run stuffing defenses that lacks speed is no longer there. That is one reason why Jim Tressel and company are taking a strong look at 2009 Hamilton High School prospect Denicos Allen.

Initial Impression

According to Allen's coach, Jim Place, Allen is 6-feet tall and weighs 205 pounds. While many coaches and players tend to exaggerate how big a prospect is, when looking at Allen in warm ups, he seemed to be every bit physically of how he was described.

Also a unique thing that one notices about Allen even before the game gets going is the individual position groups that he works out with. Not only does Allen do a lot of work on the defensive side of the ball with the defensive backs, but he is also running pass routes with the receivers and even sticking his nose in there with the linebackers.

That tells me that the coaches have enough confidence in him as an athlete to play multiple positions, and to play those positions at an extremely high level.
