Catching up with Jeremy Ebert
Northwestern commitment Jeremy Ebert had a tough time watching last Saturday's Northwestern-Ohio State game, and it wasn't only because the Wildcats got blown out, 58-7, at Ohio Stadium. To Ebert, an admitted Ohio State fan, rooting against the Buckeyes proved to be an odd feeling.
"It was kind of hard," said Ebert, who hails from Hilliard, a western suburb of Columbus. "I got invited to Ohio State parties, but I chose to stay home. I rooted for Northwestern, of course, but I've been a Buckeye fan my whole life."
So, Ebert watched with mixed feelings as the team of his past, Ohio State, tore apart the team of his future, Northwestern. In a way, though, his allegiance to the Buckeyes softened the blow of bearing witness to the Wildcats getting whipped - if anyone was going to beat Northwestern, he hoped it would be Ohio State.
Ebert realizes that Northwestern was not even competitive against the Buckeyes, but he's confident that coach Pat Fitzgerald and his staff will be able to right the ship. To him, Northwestern just needs to put together the pieces that are already in place.
