Fisher talks about N.C. State, looks ahead to Wake Forest

Jimbo Fisher spoke briefly with reporters after Sunday night's practice. Among other topics, Fisher talked about the progress in the passing game, his desire for Jamaal Edwards to see more action, and the need for more toughness on offense. Here is a transcript of that conversation.

Q: You've had a chance to watch film of the N.C. State game. Did anything stand out?

We're making progress, starting to get some identity, a little more consistency in things. Making more plays down the field. We've got to continue to grow in the running game, and continue to grow at quarterback - making some decisions. We still left a lot of points on the field, at quarterback too, along with some other positions. We've got to finish some drives. Had a chance to make some plays and throws that we didn't make. And we've got to grow in that aspect.

Q: It seemed like Xavier was getting going in the second half before the lightning delay. Did that delay kind of throw things off?

I don't know. Hey, [N.C. State] had to play with it, and we had to deal with it. Whatever the situation they're dealt, that's part of it. I don't buy into that. That's the hand you're dealt, and you've got to deal with it.

Q: Jamaal Edwards didn't get many at-bats, but he looked good on that one run. Did you plan to get him in more?

He should have got some more. Need to get him some more; we've got to get him going. Not to take anything away from Deuce (Antone Smith), but we've got to get him (Edwards) going more. We've got to get him in there. I agree.
