Bowers talk about progress at OU
Brett Bowers has had plenty of ups and downs early in his Sooner career. The junior strong safety from Jacksonville, Fla., has finally started to become a major factor on special teams in 2007.
Bowers talked with SoonerScoop.com writer-at-large Luke Mildren about his experiences at Oklahoma and his impressions of some of his teammates. Bowers also talked about his role on special teams as well as up-and-coming freshman who are standing out in recent practices.
SoonerScoop.com: Can you talk about what it's like being a part of the special teams unit?
Brett Bowers: We just get down there and make plays. Go down there and block and go down on kick off and make tackles. We basically treat special teams like we do offense or defense.
SS.com: What is your favorite part of special teams?
Bowers: Kickoff definitely. Going down there and blowing someone up. Sometimes you have to slow it down or you will just blow by them, but getting a big hit is the best.
SS.com: What was the deal with the Mohawk?
Bowers: We thought we would use it to get the secondary closer. A select few of us did it in the summer, but since then it has kind of stopped.
