A decision is in for Howard

Ohio State just picked up the 13th commitment of the class on Friday afternoon as Miami (Fla.) Dr. Krop cornerback Travis Howard made it official and decided to be part of the growing class of 2008.

"I just committed on the phone to coach (Luke) Fickell," Howard said.

Both Howard and teammate Etienne Sabino were in Columbus this past weekend to watch the Buckeyes take on the Michigan State Spartans and both players said that they had outstanding visits. It went so well for Howard that he only needed less than a week to decide to become a Buckeye. Howard did not have an Ohio State offer until getting up to Columbus.

"I think I got the offer up there on the visit but I am not quite sure," Howard said.

The three star cornerback had a hard time pinpointing any specific reason that he enjoyed the trip so much and admitted that it was a combination of factors that made the trip so enjoyable.

"Just the whole visit and the atmosphere," Howard said. " The people, the coaches, everything was just set perfect of how I wanted it."

There will be no mystery for Howard as to which position the 6-foot-0, 172-pounder will play. The coaches have told him that they are definitely looking at him as a cornerback prospect.

Now attention will turn to teammate Sabino who appears to be narrowing down his list for a mid-November decision. How as the four-star linebacker taken the news of his current teammate's decision?

"I have been talking to him about it and he just wanted the best for me and he is happy for me," Howard said. "He is kind of shocked because I actually committed. We have been playing around and I would tell him that I am going to commit to a school as messing around, but I really did."

Howard admitted that he has talked with members of the Brew Crew but that he came to the decision independent of any recruit feedback.

"Not exactly, I have talked to (Michael) Brewster a couple time and he is a really cool guy, but mostly the visit set the tone," Howard said.

The Ohio State coaching staff left a great impression on the talented cornerback and he had nothing but good things to say about his future head coach in addition to how the whole trip made his decision an easy one.

"The whole experience of it and all," Howard said. "Coach (Jim) Tressel is a big factor too, he is a real cool guy and laid back. That was a big factor."
