Travis Goethel Q&A

Arizona State strongside linebacker Travis Goethel has been a major factor in the success of the defense this season. Though he hasn't received much recognition, the 6-foot-2, 229 pound sophomore is second in the team in tackles, with 39, and he also has three pass break ups and one forced fumble. We spoke with him following a recent practice.

What is the general feeling for you personally, seeing the team go 8-0 and having so much success, especially on defense?

"It's a big turnaround from last year. Our fans are all into it. Guys are all into it on our team. We're having a lot of fun at our games and everything, just winning."

I imagine you didn't except to be undefeated at this point in the season with a new coaching staff?

"It's been real crazy. After our old coaching staff left, we didn't know what the heck was going to happen but once these guys took over, they pretty much changed everything totally around. The success wasn't totally a surprise because we knew we had some good players but the coaches are excellent and they've gotten everyone ready to play for every game."
