Duke first, off-season next

Butch Davis struggled to speak on Sunday afternoon during his weekly telephone press conference because of a sinus infection and the aftereffects of Saturday's game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

"I woke up this morning and could barely talk," Davis said.

The Yellow Jackets kicked a last-second field goal to beat UNC 27-25. Losing another close ball game did not help with Davis' health. Carolina has lost six games by 24 points total. Those are losses, regardless of how close the Tar Heels may have come. But they are also even more painful because they were within grasp.

At this point, the players and coaches will try to bounce back for the regular-season finale against Duke on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Kenan Stadium.

Outside of that, the path to improvement lies with an off-season conditioning, spring practice and recruiting, Davis said.
