Florida sleeper still on the radar
One recruit that has hovered a bit under the radar is safety Robert Sands (6' 5" 205) from Miami Carol City.
"I will not make a decision until Letter of Intent Day."
Sands told the Pantherlair that he is 6' 4 1/2" tall and currently weighs 204 pounds. His best time in the 40 is a 4.54.
Sands indicated that he has a little work to do academically but feels he is very close to qualifying. "I should be fine," said Sands.
Carol City has had a tough time the past two years. In 2007 they were 2-8, and in 2006 they were 4-8, although a 3-1 record in league play got them into the playoffs. Under Coach Walt Frazier, the Chiefs have won three Class 6A state championships and were state runners-up in 1989. The Florida High School Athletic Association recently named Frazier one of the 12 greatest coaches in state history.
"My best game this year was against Booker T. I had 2 interceptions and about 15 tackles."
Sands was a second team All-Dade County selection as a senior.
Sands also participates in track and finished third in the state as a junior with triple jump of 47' ¾". He was a first team All-Dade County selection in track.
The Pitt coaching staff now has verbal commitment from 20 prospects with Pittsburgh Central Catholic's Andrew Taglianetti the most recent to join the Pitt football program.
