Three in-state schools offer RB
Houston Nutt's running game was always impresssive year in and year out at Arkansas and most recently featured two potential first round NFL draft choices in Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.
Now at Ole Miss, Nutt is recruiting hard and successfully at the position, including the signing of five star Enrique Davis last month.
Nutt got off to an early jump on his 2009 signing class with a verbal commitment from Helena (West Helena Central HS), Ark. running back Turrell Williams last Saturday.
But Nutt isn't stopping with Williams when it comes to running backs and another prospect Ole Miss has extended an offer to is Monticello's Kendrick Hardy.
As a junior, the 6-foot-1, 200 pound Hardy rushed for 2,103 yards and scored 29 touchdowns. He also played linebacker on defense and added 44 tackles.
He was selected Most Valuable Player in his district by the coaches and was also selected second team running back in the 4A category.
"I'm hearing from Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Mississippi State," Hardy said Wednesday evening. "I have offers from all three."
Hardy has elected not to make the junior day rounds to date.
He says he's never been to the Mississippi State campus, but attended a game at Ole Miss last fall.
"The campus, it's nice and real big," Hardy said. "The stadium, it's pretty big too."
Hardy has also been to Southern Miss and his older brother, Wayne Hardy, is getting a look at linebacker and running back for the Golden Eagles.
With three teams extending offers, Hardy says he has no favorite at this time. What does he think about the three schools?
Ole Miss: I know that they like to run the ball and that's important to me.
Miss. State: It's close and they like to run the ball. I think they'll give me a good opportunity to show what I can do.
Southern Miss: The coaches are telling the new staff will run the ball. I think they would give me a good opportunity to show what I can do too.
Hardy says two schools he would like to hear from that he currently isn't hearing from is LSU and Florida.
His camp plans for the summer aren't complete, but he said he would like to attend summer camp at LSU.
He hasn't set a timeline for committing, but said he'll likely wait until his senior season.
He was unsure of his GPA and said he'll take the ACT soon, perhaps as early as next month.
GPA -- I really don't know -- ACT next month.
