Tulsa athlete likes Ole Miss
Ole Miss already has a verbal commitment from Turrell Williams from West Helena, Ark., and the Rebels have also offered another Williams - Terrell Williams, an athlete from Thomas Edison Prep Academy in Tulsa, Okla.
Williams is a 6-foot-4, 212 pound athlete with 4.63 speed who played several positions last fall as a junior. Those positions included quarterback, wide receiver, defensive back and linebacker. (RebelSports.net note: Williams' listed height and weight at 6-foot-2, 196 pounds was obtained almost a year ago at a Nike Camp).
"I got an offer from Ole Miss about a month ago," Williams said Thursday evening. "The Ole Miss coaches called my high school coach and said they wanted to talk to me and I called them back and they said they were offering."
The Rebels join Stanford in offering Williams. He is also receiving interest from Oklahoma, LSU, Oklahoma State, Illinois, Oregon State, Colorado, and Texas Tech.
"Ole Miss is definitely a possible go to place," Williams said. "First, it's in the SEC and that's probably the best conference in the country. It's good competition in the conference and I really like the staff. They put players in the NFL and it's a school with tradition where players get good visibility."
Williams doesn't have his junior statistics available, saying that he played so many positions - both on offense and defense - that it was hard to keep up with, and emphasized that his team had a losing season and that was more important than his individual statistics.
He has only attended one junior day to date - at Oklahoma - and has no other visits planned until the summer, saying he needs to hit the books with just nine weeks of school left (RebelSports.net note: Williams has a 3.9 GPA, which he attributes to his mother stressing academics, and will take the ACT for the first time on Apr. 12).
"Oklahoma was pretty nice," he said. "I got to meet the staff and get to know them better and checked out the facilities."
While Williams has passed through Mississippi on his way to visit relatives in Mobile, he has never visited the Ole Miss campus.
"I'm going to try to get down there, probably this summer," he said.
Despite the two offers and interest from the other schools, Williams will take his time before making a decision where he'll play college football.
"I'm pretty wide open right now," he said. "I want to get to know the programs that are recruiting me."
One school that hasn't shown interest that Williams grew up rooting for is UCLA.
"At first, I thought I was going to be a basketball player and I pulled for UCLA, it was my dream school," he said. "But now that I'm a football player, I still like their program, especially with the coaching change."
Williams is also familiar with the new staff at Ole Miss.
"I know all about coach (Houston) Nutt and Arkansas," he said. "I love the wide open offense that he likes to run."
While Williams is listed as an athlete by Rivals.com, he feels he projects as a wide receiver in college, but also could play another position.
"I've thought about playing tight end," Williams said. "I'd have to bulk up but I could use my speed against linebackers."
(RebelSports.net note: Tulsa's Terrell Williams shouldn't be confused with Texas prospect also named Terrell Williams, who has also been offered by Ole Miss)
