Practice Insider: Christian Tupou's Huge Day

The few hundred fans that braved the 70-degree weather and attended practice Thursday afternoon at Howard Jones Field saw something special from sophomore Christian Tupou. With Fili Moala and Gerald Washington missing practice, coupled with the slew of injuries the defensive line was already facing, Tupou played nearly every snap of Thursday's practice with an intensity and vigor that is rarely seen. The result? How about four sacks and - possibly, depending on which side you ask - a forced fumble in a short practice?

"I thought Christian Tupou had a spectacular practice," head coach Pete Carroll said. "He didn't have anyone backing him up all day long and he just kept going. There was a time when he made three or four tackles in a row."

Tupou may have put some of Carroll's anxieties at ease Thursday.

"On the pass rush in particular," Carroll said about Tupou's impressive day. "That's a big deal for us because we're looking hard for the replacement to Sedrick (Ellis).

"And without Averell (Spicer) out here to compete Tup's had a great opportunity and he's making the most of it; he's improved tremendously during the spring. We really needed him to do it and it's really great to see it."

Another player that has been turning heads this spring is junior safety Will Harris. Known for his spectacular hits and physicality, Harris has battled injuries every year that he's been a Trojan.

However, with Kevin Ellison sitting out much of the spring with an injury of his own, Harris has seized the opportunity to show the coaching staff what he can do.
