Auburn mines another Mobile gem
Auburn has been mining the Mobile area for years and added a third Mobile native to its commitment list Saturday when defensive lineman Nick Fairley announced he would re-sign with the Tigers.
Fairley was joined at Williamson High School for his press conference by fellow AU commitments Raymond Cotton and Terrence Coleman, along with current Auburn defensive end Antonio Coleman.
Fairley, who signed with AU out of Williamson in 2007 but came up short qualifying, was thankful to be surrounded by his family and future teammates at his press conference.
"It was real exciting to come home to do this in front of my friends and family," said Fairley. "That means a lot to me. I talked to Antonio about two days ago, and he told me he might not be able to make it.
"To see him walk through the door, I was real excited."
Coleman, who AU signed out of Williamson in 2005, said he's kept in close contact with Fairley the last couple of years.
"I've been talking to Nick very week," said Coleman. "I call him and talk with him and see if he's doing OK. He asked me to come down; I was going to come down anyway, because it would be important to him for me to be here. I just came down to show some support.
"We've created a long line. Me and Sen'Derrick, starting with Demarco McNeil and all the guys before us. It's a Mobile thing now. We're trying to get all the talent that we can out of Alabama, especially Mobile, to help us form a great team."
