Griffin up to seven offers

Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace wide receiver Sterling Griffin entered the Spring with one scholarship offer from South Florida. As spring comes to a close and summer begins, Griffin has clearly helped his cause with a good spring and now he is up to seven offers.

"FIU, Syracuse, FAU, Virginia, Purdue, Iowa State and South Florida have all offered," Griffin said. "All of them are good. I like them all. I'm open minded. I was surprised by them all really."

Along with the seven offers that he has, Griffin is also hearing heavily from South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Kansas State. He was able to show some ability in spring practice both catching the ball and some skills on defense.

"Spring was good," he said. "I got a chance to play some defense. I was at corner this spring. I really liked it. I always played offense and I played a little safety last year. This fall I'll be playing both sides. I like being around the ball. If they run the ball to my side I'm going to be on the tackle. I like when teams throw to my side."

Despite his talents on the defensive side of the ball, Griffin is being recruited as a wide receiver with good size and great hands and he likes that.

"I still like offense better," he said. "I like when the ball is in my hands."

Griffin is currently putting together his summer plans and hopes to attend a few camps as well as some team 7-on-7 events.

"I'm going to the South Florida camp," he said. "I'm going to try to get to Florida Friday Night Lights. I might go to UM camp next week. We're supposed to be going to South Florida 7-on-7 camp. I'm just trying to build my upper body and work on my hands."

As far as a time frame for his college decision, Griffin is not in a hurry.

"It's just a wide open process," he said. "I'm open minded to all schools. I'm just enjoying it as everything comes my way. I'll probably make a decision after the season. If a school draws my attention I'll probably commit after the season."
