Countdown to Camp: A crowd at tailback

Fall camp opens up in 24 days. Over the next couple of weeks, PowerMizzou.com will continue to get Tiger fans completely prepped for the biggest season in school history. Today, we continue our in-depth breakdowns of the fall situation at every position on the field. We move on to the situation at the tailback position.

The Starter: Sophomore Derrick Washington took the starting role from senior Jimmy Jackson in spring camp. PowerMizzou.com had projected Washington would win the job, but not until fall camp or even mid-season. Washington brings not only strong running ability, but is a better receiver out of the backfield than the Tigers have had in years. Look for the youngster from Ray-Pec to get involved in the offense in multiple fashions.

Projected Backup: Jackson is second on the depth chart and will likely stay there. However, his best fit may be as a short-yardage, situational back. Redshirt freshman DeVion Moore had as good a spring as any tailback and will figure heavily in the mix when Washington is not on the field.

PowerMizzou.com will continue our position previews with a look at the wide receivers on Saturday.
