State prepares for scrimmage

Mississippi State took things indoors for their final practice Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs worked out in shorts and helmets for two hours in the Palmeiro Center in preparation for Saturday's scrimmage.

"Today was basically a learning practice," said head coach Sylvester Croom. "It was to give them some rest and to get some things installed on third down and get some mental work more than anything. I wanted to give them some rest so they could get ready for tomorrow's scrimmage."

Despite being a much more relaxed atmosphere in the air-conditioned building, Croom said the team remained focused on the tasks at hand. Croom also found praise for his defensive unit for being able to capitalize on mistakes by the offense.

"I thought the concentration was good," Croom said. "The defense did a good job of converting some tipped balls into turnovers. I think we only had two tipped balls in the air that the defense didn't come up with. We had too many of those today. Our quarterbacks' ball location wasn't as good as it has been on our deep balls. We had a couple of tips that turned into interceptions. We've got to do a lot better job as far as accuracy and ball placement with our quarterbacks."
