A&M gets first scrimmage under their belts

All Texas A&M wanted to do Tuesday was scrimmage, but the weather in College Station just wouldn't cooperate. Originally slated for Kyle Field, the scrimmage had to put on hold before it ever started as a downpour hit the A&M campus.

After moving to the McFerrin Athletic Center, the Aggies got underway late but eventually got to scrimmage indoors. Originally starting out with the first-team offense against the first-team defense, then the second-team offense against the second-team defense and so on, the Aggies had trouble scoring in the first half with the defense owning the day.

"First of all we were going to outside and this morning at 7:30 my ace reporting staff, Billy Pickard suggested that we were going to have a torrential downpour so we made a quick decision and came inside," said A&M head coach Mike Sherman. "We probably could have gone outside, but Pickard's right more times than not so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt."

The second half, however, saw the first-team offense march down the field against the second-team defense. Surprisingly, the second-team offense repeated the feat against the first-team defense on the next drive.

The designated "teams," however, were mixed and matched throughout the day with different defensive line units, linebackers, wide receivers, tight ends and running backs playing with each team.
