Benjamin: 'I want to stay in Arizona'

Yuma (Ariz.) Arizona Western College corner Marcus Benjamin is one of the top junior college prospects in the west. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder reportedly runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.

Benjamin has previously reported offers from Arizona, Arizona State and Wyoming. He now reports a new fourth offer.

"I have offers from ASU, Arizona, Wyoming and Minnesota has now offered," Benjamin said. "Those are the four schools I am hearing from the most. I have three favorites right now: ASU, UofA and then Minnesota. ASU and UofA really stand out because I want to stay in Arizona. I like the weather. UofA is a good school and they have great defensive backs.

"I like the football program that ASU has and the environment around the campus "Coach (Craig) Bray told me that he thought I could be one of the players that comes in and plays right away. I have been down [to ASU]. I just came to check out the school. I didn't talk to the coaches or anything (when on campus)."

Benjamin is originally from New Iberia, La. He graduated from Westgate High School in 2006. From there he headed out to Yuma to enroll at Arizona Western. Benjamin redshirted his first season at Arizona Western. He is currently on track to enroll this spring as a mid-year transfer with two years remaining eligibility.

"Our regular season starts (this) week," Benjamin said. "We are looking real good on defense and on offense. Nothing has really changed with recruiting. I have not set up any official visits yet. I plan on deciding during my seasons. Playing time is going to be the most important factor."
