Anderson taking strides in the secondary

With a veteran secondary surrounding him, redshirt freshman Damein Anderson is just taking it all in.

Coached by veteran Melvin Smith and supported by two seniors and a junior ahead of him, Anderson has quietly taken strides in becoming a top-notch cornerback for Mississippi State.

"I'm just trying to take in what Coach Smith has taught me," Anderson said. "I'm just looking up to the other corners like Marcus Washington, Jasper O'Quinn and Tay Bowser and try to get on their level and do what they did last season. It helps me a lot to have guys like that. If I mess up they will always tell what I messed up and what I have to do to get it right. They continually have got my back at all times. They have helped me a lot to keep my confidence up."

Anderson is currently second on the depth chart behind Washington at right corner and has played in all four games this season. He has four tackles to his credit including one for loss and also broken up one pass.

"My season is going pretty good so far," Anderson said. "I've got back in they rhythm of playing football after sitting out for a year for my redshirt year. I'm getting back into the rotation and getting back in the groove of where I was like in high school."

Anderson redshirted last season after standout prep career at Hazelhurst High school.
