Stanzi ready for first start on the road

Ricky Stanzi saw some playing time at Pittsburgh two weeks ago, but Saturday will be his first official start on the road against Michigan State in East Lansing. The Hawkeye quarterback talks about playing on the road in the Big Ten, looks back at the final plays last week against Northwestern, discusses how the offense is coming along, and much more.

Q: How is the offense coming along?

STANZI: I think there's a lot of room for improvement. We did some good things out there, but we left a lot of opportunities on the field. That's something you can't have trying to win a ball game. Those are things we'd like to hopefully work on this week for this week's game.

Q: The last four plays, I'm sure you went over and over them. What would you have done differently?

STANZI: Complete the pass, that'd be the first thing. There was one to Derrell to the right front pylon that I missed. He had the guy beat and that would have been nice to hit that one and end the game. But if you look at it, you miss a few passes, it's going to happen, but you don't want to do it when the game is on the line. Hopefully, just work on my accuracy so when those kind of plays come up again, you're able to make that throw.

Q: Have you looked at Michigan State? What about them?

STANZI: You know, they're a big group. They're tough. They're physical football players. So we can expect the same tough kids that we had last year. It's definitely going to be a fight.

Q: It's the first road start for you Ricky. How's your confidence? Coach seems to have some confidence in you.

STANZI: It's good. Whether it's home or away, you've kind of got to be the same. The routine is a little different when it's away, so it makes it a little bit tougher. It's kind of a longer week almost, but it's exciting. I'm excited about the opportunity.
