Allen talks Spartan commitment

Earlier this week Denicos Allen of Hamilton High School called the Michigan State University and gave his commitment to Coach Dantonio and the Spartans. Allen becomes the 16th commitment to the class and continues the trend of the Spartans focusing on Midwestern talent. SpartanMag.com spoke with Allen last night and got some details on his commitment.

Allen is rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com and the #34 outside linebacker in the nation. He is also rated the #33 player in Ohio for the class of 2009. He selected the Spartans over a host of offers.

"I had 27 offers in all," Allen said. I had offers from everyone ion the Big Ten except Ohio State and Michigan."

So what was it about Michigan State hat made you decide to commit to the Spartans?

"I really liked it up there. I was pretty sure I was going to commit to Michigan State after I cam home form there last weekend. I really liked the coaches and the players there. I liked talking with Coach Dantonio as well. He is a religious guy and that is important."

Allen called up his primary recruiter Coach Harlon Barnett on Monday night and informed him about his decision. He then spoke with Coach Dantonio on Tuesday.

"They were excited about it (the commitment). They recruited me as a safety. They said they like how I am psychical, have quick feet and good speed."

Allen indicated that as of right now he checks in at 6-foot-0, 205-pounds. He has been clocked as fast as 4.5 seconds in the forty-yard dash.

Allen also indicated that both he and his family are excited about the opportunity to be playing at Michigan State. The fact that Michigan Stat is a short drive from the Dayton-Cincinnati area was another positive.

"Playing in the Big ten was my goal. Allen said. I did not grow u a fan of any team; I just wanted to go to a school I felt comfortable with.

He trip to East Lansing this past weekend was not Allen's first. He had been on campus previously and met with some of the academic advisor s and toured the facilities. This past weekend he was able to absorb the game day atmospheres at Michigan State.

Allen is having a very strong senior season for Hamilton High School. He leads the Big Blue with 58.5 tackles and has a conference leading 5.5 sacks. His play is one of the main reasons why Hamilton is currently 5-2 and giving up less than 175-yards per contest.

The commitment of Allen gives the Spartans a total of 16 scholarships for the class of 2008. Michigan State will likely sign around 18 players on national signing day in February.
