Brignone protecting the middle

J.C. Brignone and the Mississippi State Bulldogs were eliminated from bowl contention two weeks ago.

So with postseason play out of the picture they turn their attention towards another type of bowl, the annual Egg Bowl against in-state rival Ole Miss.

Brignone knows a win in this game would do many positive things within the program.

"Not only beating your cross-state rival, that's a big thing but then you have one whole year of celebrating the Egg Bowl win," Brignone said. "We don't have a bowl game to go to this year so this is our bowl game. Five wins is not as good as we wanted, but we can finish out the season with a positive. I not only winning against our cross-state rival, it will help out with our recruiting and everything else getting five wins."

Brignone also believes a victory would have implications for years to come in the minds of the players on campus that are currently redshirting.

"I think it would carry over into next season just getting the mindset into these young guys that haven't played," Brignone said. "They would go on to get better now and step up and make next year a real good season."

Brignone knows what to expect on Friday when he lines up against the Rebels. He played 24 snaps in last year's showdown and graded out at 81-percent and had one knockdown block in the game.
