Will White keep his commitment?

With the Dec. 17 signing day for junior college players quickly approaching, Mississippi State's uncertainty at head coach could be a factor.

Sylvester Croom's resignation on Saturday sent shockwaves through their No. 21 ranked recruiting class including three-star JUCO linebacker Chris White.

Croom, without mentioning his name two weeks ago, tabbed White as the starting middle linebacker for next season. But will Croom's departure affect the 6-foot-4, 238-pounder's decision?

"I'm still going to sign with them," White said. "If they don't hire anybody before I sign, that's fine. I'm going to go ahead and sign with them if they have a head coach or if they don't."

White said he was caught off guard when he received a text message Saturday morning telling him the news of Croom's resignation.

"My buddy texted me on the phone," White said. "He just told me that Coach Croom resigned. I was surprised. I really didn't expect it to happen. I kinda didn't want it to happen but it happened so I'm just going to have to move on from it."

White has since been contacted by MSU director of athletics Greg Byrne as well as assistant coaches Louis Campbell and Pat Washington concerning his commitment.
