Celina LB proving himself in playoffs

Perrenial power Celina is in the middle of one of their annual playoff runs right now. That good news not only for Bobcat fans, it's also a good thing for college recruiters because it is giving them an extended look at junior linebacker Caleb Lavey.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Lavey is your typical small town phenom. He went straight from playing junior high football to starting in his first varsity game as a freshman, and in all has started 47 games in his high school career. He registered 104 tackles as a freshman, 114 tackles as a sophomore and he has about 170 tackles already this season in 14 contests prior to the Bobcats' Class 3A state semifinal game with Liberty Hill on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Midlothian. He has run a 4.56-second 40-yard dash, was the district defensive MVP last season and has college coaches at his games and practices.

Lavey has been offered by Arkansas and is gaining significant interest from Texas A&M, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Baylor, Nebraska, Iowa State, Florida, Kansas, LSU, Alabama, Duke, SMU, TCU and Houston.
