December 26, 2008's Car Care Notes: Day 4

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--West Virginia fans will remember North Carolina's Butch Davis from his days at Miami, when the Hurricanes and Mountaineers clashed every season from 1995-2000 with Davis at the helm of the 'Canes and Don Nehlen at the head of the Gold & Blue.

Nehlen was only able to get Davis once in that six-year stint--28-17 in 1997 at the old Orange Bowl. Of course no one much was beating Miami, then, when it won three Big East Conference championships and finished second twice.

The one victory Davis recalls over the others over Nehlen-led teams is the one most Mountaineer fans would like to forget. It was in '96 that the Hurricanes edged the Mountaineers 10-7 at Mountaineer Field.
