2010 LB looking at Frogs

With the recruiting process seemingly starting earlier every year, the Frogs are looking to get a jump on the class of 2010. Only one offer has been handed out so far and it's only fitting that the top target in the class looks to be a linebacker.

While TCU's top ranked defense lit up opponents all season long, the Frogs extended their first offer of 2010 to a linebacker that they hope will help carry on the tradition of the Horned Frog frenzied defense. Caleb Lavey from the talent rich Texas town of Celina is one of the top players in the state regardless of position. Holding offers from TCU, Arkansas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, Lavey is a highly coveted prospect. PurpleMenace.Com caught up with Lavey to get his thoughts on all of the early recruiting attention.

"It's great, I really appreciate all of the schools that are showing me interest" said Levay. "There are three schools that are standing out to me right now and TCU is one of them."

What is it about TCU that has Lavey heaping such high praise on the Horned Frogs this early in the process?

"I just love TCU, I really do" he said. "TCU was the first college that I ever visited and I love everything about it. I like that it's close to home but not so close that my mom will be coming by all the time to make sure my room is clean(laughing)."

While talking to Lavey, you got the sense that he really held TCU in high regards. He continued to explain why he thought TCU was an ideal school to attend.

"It's just an honor to be recruited by such a prestigious football program like TCU, I love everything about them" he said. "Football wise, TCU has everything that I want. In my book, they can offer everything to me on the football field. I'm going down there Friday to talk to the coaches and see what they have to offer academics wise."

With Coach Sharp leading the charge in Lavey's recruitment, the Celina native feels like he is in good hands.

"I call Coach Sharp all the time, he's a great guy" said Lavey. "He tells me a lot of good stuff about the program and I'm really ready to talk to Coach Patterson one on one. Definately, as a linebacker, I want to play on the best defense possible. It's an honor that a school like TCU, with their reputation as one of the best defenses in the country, wants me to play linebacker for them."

Lavey is the first player in the 2010 class to receive an offer from TCU and he says it means a lot to him.

"It means a lot to me that I'm the first guy they offered" he said. "I know if I go to TCU that I will have a chance to play in a bowl game every year and have a chance to play for one of the best defenses in the country. If I went there, I know that I would have a chance to play for a national championship."

With schools such as Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Penn State, Ohio State and Ole Miss showing him interest, there will be no shortage of options for the talented Texan. With Lavey looking to make a decision sometime during the summer, it's a must that the Frogs make an impression on Friday.
