Injury Update

Brandon Wood tires to keep a sense of humor about last year's rash of injuries, many of which remain as the Bulldogs continue their winter workout program.

"It seems like everything's on the left side. Left shoulders, left knees … I don't know what it is," Wood said. "None of us are sure. I'm sure the same thing happens at other schools across the country, but it sure seemed to hit us hard."

Wood can certainly be included in that bunch.

The defensive tackle was scheduled to find out Thursday night when he was to have surgery on the torn labrum in his left shoulder, an injury that will add him to the list of players scheduled to miss Spring Practice which begins next month.

It's a list that seemingly grows by the day.

Along with Wood, in the past week it's been learned that fellow backup defensive tackle Ricardo Crawford underwent wrist arthroscopy on his wrist, although he's still expected to be ready for spring, while offensive tackle Josh Davis underwent left shoulder surgery to repair an injury suffered in the Capital One bowl.

Like Wood, Davis will miss spring drills as will running back Richard Samuel who underwent surgery on his left wrist earlier this week.

The list does not currently include defensive tackle Kade Weston, who said the left knee injury (meniscus) that hampered him for most of 2008 is still causing some problems that continue to limit his workout regiment.

All total, 13 other players who either played, or were expected to play significant roles with the team last year will not see any action this spring.

That list includes offensive linemen Trinton Sturdivant (ACL) and Vince Vance (ACL), along with defensive tackle Jeff Owens (ACL). While the trio won't be taking part in spring workouts, the rehab for all three continues to go great and each is expected to be ready for the start of preseason drills.

Others who will miss spring include tight end Bruce Figgins (shoulder), defensive end Roderick Battle (shoulder), fullback Justin Fields (ACL), defensive lineman Matt DeGenova (shoulder), linebacker Akeem Hebron (had ankle hardware removed), defensive end Cornelius Washington (had forearm hardware removed), defensive endNeland Ball (patella tendon) and offensive lineman Chris Davis (hip).

Running back Dontavius Jackson will be limited nursing an injured knee.

All the players listed are expected to he healthy for preseason.
