Swope holds Colorado connections
Among the hottest phone numbers in the southwest right now is that of Austin (Tex.) Westlake High School cornerback Louie Swope. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound corner claims a 4.48 time in the 40-yard dash and a junior tape that saw him collect more than 90 tackles and nearly 10 pass break-ups. Swope has already attended Junior Days at Southern Methodist and Texas A&M and expects to be at Junior Days for Baylor and Texas Tech.
"SMU's campus was really pretty up there and their Junior Day was short," Swope said. "I got to meet with a position coach and talk to their recruiters. A&M was pretty much the same deal. We got to go on a tour, met position coaches and other coaches too."
While the recruiting season has not yet produced any scholarship offers yet, he is hearing from a number of schools, including Colorado State, which has a connection to the Texan.
"I actually have family right outside of Denver," Swope said. "We don't come up that often, but I was there this past winter break. it is beautiful up there in the mountains. I went up to go ski and get away from hot, humid Texas."
Swope added he is considering Colorado State and may look to Fort Collins for a visit. Colorado State Defensive Line Coach Scott Brown is his main contact through the Rams and a trip north may also help him to see his grandparents who also live in Denver part of the year.
"It doesn't matter to me if the school is in-state, out-of-state, just whatever school fits me right," Swope said.
Last fall Swope scored 95 tackles, one interceptions and nine pass break-ups for Westlake, which started the season off 0-3 before getting to the state regional playoffs. Swope played a little offense, but made his name on the defensive side of the ball.
"I feel like I am a cover corner that can come up and lay a hit," Swope said.
