Johnson taking his time

With spring break now in the rearview mirror and with track in full swing, it seems that it can be hard for a recruit to focus on the recruiting process at times. Especially if that prospect is a multi-sport star. Aaron Johnson is just that at East Texas powerhouse, Longview high school. Participating in football, basketball and now track for the Lobos, Johnson has found very little time to get too involved in the recruiting process at this time. He hopes that will change in the near future.

"It's been pretty good so far" said Johnson. "Colleges have been sending me a lot of mail but that's just about it right now."

With an offer on the table from TCU and interest from school's such as OU, Arkansas and Baylor, Johnson seems to be taking the whole process a little slower than others.

"TCU is my only offer right now" said Johnson. "I want to visit them but I really haven't had a chance to. I hope to get a chance to see them in the near future. I really haven't had a chance to do anything with recruiting because of other sprts. I just finished basketball and now I'm in track so I haven't been able to go anywhere yet."

With other sports taking up so much of his time, Johnson seems resigned to the fact that his decision on where he will play his college ball will come later than sooner.

"I'll probably make a decision after the football season" said Johnson. "If not that late, maybe a little earlier but I want a chance to see a few different schools."

Although the talented prospect plays quarterback for the Lobos, many of the schools that are recruiting him have him pegged as an athlete. Does that have any bearing on his decision making process?

"No sir, not really" he said. "A lot of the schools say that I can play anywhere, kind of like an athlete. TCU has talked to me about a few different positions. They like me at defensive back, receiver or quarterback. I prefer to play quarterback at the next level but if I don't stand out enough, then I'll try something else. I'll do whatever I can to help the team I'm on."

With Johnson claiming that he has no favorites at the time, it looks like the playmaking quarterback just wants to take his time and enjoy the process.

"I'm not sure when exactly I'll decide but I'm going to look at all of my options" said Johnson. "I'll have more time to focus on recruiting later on after track, that should give me enough time to get a better idea of my options."

With no clear sense of urgency for the Lobo quarterback, Johnson seems to be waiting on more offers. With camps and other events coming up, Johnson will have plenty of opportunities to showcase his abilities and hopefully bring more schools his direction to take a closer look.
