Spartans offer Cass Tech star

The last few years Cass Tech High School has produced a lot of talented football players. The Spartans have not rung the bell with a Technician lately, but that isn't going to stop Head Coach Mark Dantonio from going after some of the best players in the state of Michigan, like Daniel Easterly.

Easterly is seeing his stock rise signifigantly this spring and earlier this week he saw his offer list expand when he received a schoalrship from Michigan State. Spartanmag.com asked Eaterly about the offer.

"I went to Michiogan State this past Saturday. I was able to watch practice and see the school. Afterwards I was able to speak wih Coach Dantonio and he said he wanted to offer me. I got the official offer in the mail today."

With an offer from Michitgan State, Easterly now has an impressive list of suitors. In addition to the Spartans, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois have also offered him.

In addition to Michigan State, several otehr schools are expressing a lot of inytersta nd could join the fray soon.

"Iowa, Purdue and Louisville have all said they are probably going to offer soon," he said. "Michigan wants me to come camp befor ethey offer."

As would be expected, the Wolverines could be the team to beat of they do offer. The last few years Cass Tech has pretty much been a pipeline to Ann Arbor. While that might disuade some teams, Coach Dantonio uinderstands that in order to win championship you have to recruit the top players.

Last year the Spartsn went after Cass Tech safety Thomas Gordon very hard and also were looking closely at Teric Jones prior to getting commitments from Larry Caper and Edwin Baker.

One of the reasons the Spartans like Easterly is due to the fact that he has the versatility to play multiple positions, especilally on defense. At 6-foot-4, 200-pounds (most recent weigh-in), Easterly has the size to project at either safery or grow into an outside linebacker.

One of teh reasons Easterly has develped into such a high-levelk player is due the factthat he comes from a family oif fine football players. Easterly has two older brother, onme plays at Wayne State and teh other plays at Indiana State.

"I owe a lot to my brothers. My one older brothr taught me how to be tough and my other brother helped me on my speed and hips."

When teh receruiting process first started, Easterly though that he would wait until after his senior season to make his choice. However, recently he has been weighing the benefits of making his selection a bit earlier.

"I think might change things up and decide before my senior year. Academics are important to me and I want to be able to focus on them. I love football, but I understand that going to college is about taking care of academics."

Easterly is currently running track for Cass Tech and is competing in a variety of events. He specializes in the 110 and 300 hurdles and the 200-Meters. The Technicians have a meet this Saturday and dependiong on hsi scheduelk he may try and make it to a campu sthis weekend. You can be sure that the Spartans staff would like to see him on campus for the Green and White Game if his schduel allows it.

Spartanm,ag.ocm, will be sure to keep in-conatc with Eatsrely ove rteh coming weeks.
