Smith schedules a June visit to CSU

When it comes to searching for the best player who fits a system at any given position, it helps when your university's recruiting coordinator is assigned to that player. This is the case for Edmond (OK) North cornerback Xaiver Smith and his recruitment process with Colorado State University.

Smith, who stands at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, talks to CSU's Greg Peterson two to three times a week and seems to really enjoy the Rams' offensive coordinator / recruiting coordinator along with what Fort Collins would have to offer the Oklahoma native.

"I actually probably talk to him two to three times a week, I really like him," said Smith. "He gave me their website and I really the facilities they have there and their program in general and he was really just straight forward with it so I plan to go up there and visit in June."

While Smith will check out the CSU football program when he visits next month, something he'll also check out it the school's business program, something that the 2010 cornerback thinks he may be fond of.

"I'm not real familiar with CSU, but I've been looking into it a lot and their business program is ranked nationally and I really want to get an education in business."

According to Smith, education is the most important part of his recruiting process.

Right now he is talking the most to CSU and in-state school Tulsa. As far offers go, Smith has received them from CSU, Tulsa, TCU, Air Force and Washington State on Monday. With the TCU Horned Frogs, coach Dan Sharp has said that Smith would possibly have a chance to come in and start early in his career.

"TCU offered me first, they said they saw me at a combine and got some film on me-talking about Mr. Dan Sharp. Then they ended up offering me and said as long as I was able to compete, I might get a chance to start my freshman year."

Smith plans on discussing depth at CSU with Peterson this weekend.

While Tulsa and Colorado State have shown him the most interest thus far, Smith, who runs a 4.49 forty, is in no rush make a decision nor is he leaning one way or the other. Right now he is keeping his options open.
