Ruff has two teams tied for lead
Early on in the recruiting process Itawamba AHS safety Asian Ruff tabbed Mississippi State as his leader.
But now midway through the summer it seems as if the Bulldogs have some company at the top from another Western Division rival from the Southeastern Conference.
Arkansas tendered Ruff a scholarship offer in early May and now join MSU as his two favorites.
"Right now it's a tie between Mississippi State and Arkansas," Ruff said. "What I like about Mississippi State is I am real close to their coaching staff. When I go down there they treat me like I am one of theirs. I just feel like I am at home. And at Arkansas the guy who recruits me (Reggie Johnson) is a cool guy. He wants me to come up there and visit the school and I've been thinking about coming to one of their senior camps at the end of this month."
Ruff has scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Arkansas, UAB, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech.
Ruff has already made one trip to Starkville this month participating on an all-star group in a 7-on-7 tournament. Ruff teamed up with several area players like MSU commitment Brandon Hill whose high school teams did not compete during the tournament.
Ruff and Hill have built quite a friendship and talk on the phone often. So has Hill tried to convince Ruff to join him as a member of the 2010 State signing class?
"He's not trying to put any pressure on me to come," Ruff said. "We talk all the time. When we talk on the phone he will say that I need to come on down there with him. I just tell him I don't know because I am just going to wait and ride it out."
Ruff is planning on staying with Hill when he comes down for the "Big Dawg" camp at Mississippi State on July 24.
