Sources: Weis expected to meet with team
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Charlie Weis era at Notre Dame may have its conclusion scheduled.
Multiple sources have told IrishIllustrated.com that Weis will meet with his team on Monday afternoon to discuss the future of the program with the coach's dismissal imminent. Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick is also expected to meet with assistants and players as his postseason evaluation hits the ground running.
Another issue expected to be discussed is Notre Dame's potential participation in a bowl game. Michael Floyd and Robert Hughes said after the Stanford game that they'd like to play in one and they'd like Weis to coach it.
Before Saturday's loss at Stanford, Swarbrick said this week's schedule was "undetermined." He also shot down speculation that a search for Weis' replacement had begun while the Notre Dame coach was still on the job.
"We'll engage in the evaluation in earnest following this game, and we'll go from there," Swarbrick said.
Through five seasons, Weis has a career record of 35-27, including 6-6 in 2009. In the past two Novembers, Notre Dame is just 1-8. This season's four losses in November - against Navy, Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Stanford - were by a total of 17 points. Notre Dame has played a school-record 10 games decided by a touchdown or less.
