USC is in line for the number one running back

Arguably five-star running back Reggie Bush is the number one running back in the high school ranks this recruiting year and the USC Trojans are definitely in the picture. When asked what he thought about USC and how much of a chance they had, he replied, "USC needs a runningback and I liked the coaches and the academics are good. Everybody's equal with the rest really. I'm still weighing my options, so everyone has an equal chance of my commitment." He has approximately 20 offers including a top eight of USC, Stanford, Washington, Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA, Colorado, and Oklahoma. "Stanford and Washington seemed to be the most interested and so they would have to also be the favorites. . . along with Notre Dame, . . . and UCLA." When asked about visits he said, "I don't know yet. I haven't given them any thought to that really. I have no idea when I'll set them up or when they'll be for. I would like to take one or two before the season and the rest afterwards, but I don't know how it will work out. I may not even take them all before I commit. I'd like to make my decision on signing day, but I may commit during the season if things work out to my satisfaction." "I know that I don't want to go to the east coast, but I'm not sure if distance will play a role in my decision," the 6-foot-0, 185 pound running back from San Diego (Calif.) Helix said. "I'm going to mainly look at the academics, weather, athletics and area. The graduation rate of players and what the education means after you graduation in the job market are important. I want a reasonably winning program. Nobody wants to spend their career losing. I don't want to play in the snow. I want a nice area preferably a big city setting." He has no camps planned and is hoping to major in the medical field, though he doesn't where specifically. Bush is the state of California's top running back prospect for 2002. He holds Grossmont Conference record for all-purpose yardage with 3,135 yards. His 34 touchdowns is also a conference all-time best as is his 204 total points. Bush's 2,200 yards as a junior ranks as the conference second best single season total. Bush averaged 36.4 yards per touchdown run. He also averaged over 12 yards per carry while only fumbling the ball four times during thr season. It must also be kept in mind that he sat out the second half of many blow-out games. He ran a 10.4 hand-timed 100 on his high school's track recently. He consistently runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. Bush has good strength with his 290-pound bench and his 400-pound squat. He is consistent in the the classroom with a solid 3.8 grade point average. "My vision and instincts. I seem to know what the defensive player is going to do before he does it." He described himself as, "An elusive, finesse type runner", comparing his style to Barry Sanders.
