Player Countdown to Kickoff - No. 75

#75 Kiante Tripp Position: Defensive end Class: Senior

Height/Weight: 6-6, 290 High School: Westlake
Projected Fall Team Depth Chart Position:Third Team

Spring Review: Tripp is one of those players who benefited from the arrival of new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who promised to evaluate each and every player on his own merits and not on what they've done in the past. In other words, Tripp was able to go through spring drills with a clean slate and after several years of bouncing around positions, appears to have found a home at defensive end in Grantham's 3-4 scheme.

Fall Preview: Although Tripp is down on the depth chart behind the likes of Abry Jones and Brandon Wood, there is still the feeling that the one-time offensive tackle will be able to make a contribution this fall. For Tripp's sake, Bulldog fans should hope so. Although there's no denying his physical talent, Tripp has been unable to find his niche in the Georgia program. Hopefully, his senior year will change that.

Defender Kiante Tripp currently wears 75 for the Bulldogs. Kiante has had a few different numbers at Georgia and has played a few different positions as well. He is a senior now so if he wants to play on the next level, he must succeed in 2010.

Another recent Bulldog that wore 75 and played many different positions was Fernando Velasco. Bubba played both split and tight guard, but it was when he played center in 2007 that he won second team All-SEC honors.

Maybe it has to do with the number but another 75 did basically the same thing that Velasco did. Jonas Jennings was a star offensive lineman and was capable of playing tackle, guard or center. He was an All-SEC tackle in 2000 and has had a very successful NFL career.

The Cocktail Party of 1942 could be one of the greatest for Bulldog fans. The final score in that game was Georgia 75 to Florida 0. In that game, Charley Trippi (twice on offense and once on defense) and George Poschner scored three times, Frank Sinkwich scored twice and Mayfield Lloyd, Lafayette King and Frank Riofski added a touchdown as well. A great stat in that game was that the Gators completed six passes in that game while throwing seven interceptions for Bulldog defenders.

A couple of the players mentioned above either won a Heisman Trophy or were in contention. A player that was also in contention to win the prestigious award was Garrison Hearst. In 1992, the scatback ran for over 1,500 yards including 177 against state-rival Georgia Southern. It was the first meeting of the two schools and the Eagles took the early lead, but it didn't last long as the junior from Lincolnton took the ball and ran to the left side and then down the sideline for a 75-yard score which was the longest of his collegiate career and the Bulldogs won 34 to 7.

A 75-yard run also happened last year. In a game of Clean Old Fashioned Hate, a pair of running backs had big games, but it was Caleb King that had the magic number. Georgia led 17-3 at half and Georgia Tech scored quickly in the 3rd quarter, but the Dawgs got the ball back and Caleb took the ball and ran 75 yards for the score. Georgia kept the lead and won by the score of 30 to 24.

Another 75 that happened last season was a punt by Drew Butler. The Ray Guy Award winner started off the season right by booming a 75-yarder against Oklahoma State.

1975 - Georgia Record: 9-3
Head Coach: Vince Dooley
Captains: Glynn Harrison and David Schwak
