Ranking them all: Rivals.com 120 at 1:20

Here is the third Rivals.com 1-120 ranking of the season.

How do we come up with the rankings? Well, we wait until after Week 5 to release our first set. And there are numerous variables at play, chief among them who a team has beaten and where. But we also have a "what have you done for me lately?" mindset, and consider the rankings a snapshot of the whole season, not just one game; that's why -- at times -- teams are ranked below a team they may have beaten. In addition, if a tiebreaker is needed, it's who we think would win on a neutral field.

We update these every Tuesday at 1:20 p.m. Eastern time, so if your team isn't where you think it should be, check back in a week.

On to the rankings:

Mike Huguenin's 120 at 1:20
1. Oregon (6-0)
BUZZ: The Ducks need to shore up their defense if they want to make a legitimate national title run. NEXT: vs. UCLA, Thursday
2. Boise State (6-0)
BUZZ: We keep harping on the Broncos' easy remaining schedule. Why do we do that? Because it is easy. NEXT: vs. Louisiana Tech, Oct. 26
3. TCU (7-0)
BUZZ: The Horned Frogs have allowed three points in their past three games. That's good defense, no matter who you're playing. NEXT: vs. Air Force, Saturday
4. Auburn (7-0)
BUZZ: Auburn is trying to prove you can win the SEC despite having a mediocre defense. Saturday, a high-powered Tigers offense will be going against the best defense it has faced this season. NEXT: vs. LSU, Saturday
5. Oklahoma (6-0)
BUZZ: Bob Stoops is 7-0 against Missouri, including a 41-point win in the 2008 Big 12 championship game. NEXT: at Missouri, Saturday
6. Alabama (6-1)
BUZZ: Look for the Tide to be the highest-ranked one-loss team at the end of the season. The question: How high will they be? NEXT: at Tennessee, Saturday
7. Iowa (5-1)
BUZZ: The Hawkeyes are in great position to win the Big Ten because Wisconsin, Michigan State and Ohio State all have to visit Iowa City. NEXT: vs. Wisconsin, Saturday
8. Stanford (5-1)
BUZZ: The Cardinal had a bye last week and were able to relax. This week, it's a game against Washington State, and that's basically as close to two byes in a row as you can get. NEXT: vs. Washington State, Saturday
9. LSU (7-0)
BUZZ: LSU's defense faces its first major test of the season. Good news for LSU's offense is that it might be able to actually move the ball against Auburn's mediocre defense. NEXT: at Auburn, Saturday
10. Utah (6-0)
BUZZ: The Utes are sort of the forgotten unbeaten. They would like nothing better than to win the league title in their last season in the Mountain West. NEXT: vs. Colorado State, Saturday
11. Michigan State (7-0)
BUZZ: For the first month or so, the Spartans were a nice human-interest story. Now, folks are realizing that they are a nice on-field story in that they could win the Big Ten. NEXT: at Northwestern, Saturday
12. Arizona (5-1)
BUZZ: The knee injury to QB Nick Foles might be a setback from which the Wildcats can't recover. The defense needs to step up and lead the way for a while. NEXT: vs. Washington, Saturday
13. Wisconsin (6-1)
BUZZ: John Clay and his friends on the offensive line controlled the game last week against Ohio State. Now, they have to do the exact same thing against Iowa. NEXT: at Iowa, Saturday
14. Ohio State (6-1)
BUZZ: The Buckeyes' Big Ten hopes -- not to mention their national title hopes -- took a big hit in Madison. Terrelle Pryor's Heisman hopes may have taken a fatal blow, as well. NEXT: vs. Purdue, Saturday
15. Oklahoma State (6-0)
BUZZ: The offense-minded Cowboys get their first real test of the season this week. QB Brandon Weeden better be sharp. And can the Cowboys' defense hold up against the run? If so, Oklahoma State becomes a legitimate national title contender. NEXT: vs. Nebraska, Saturday
16. Missouri (6-0)
BUZZ: How good is Mizzou's defense? The Tigers shut down Texas A&M last week and now get a shot at high-powered Oklahoma. A win and the Tigers -- as with Oklahoma State -- would become legit national title contenders. NEXT: vs. Oklahoma, Saturday
17. Nebraska (5-1)
BUZZ: The Huskers' offense was exposed in the loss to Texas. While one loss might derail any national title hopes, the Huskers still can win the Big 12 and make it to the BCS. NEXT: at Oklahoma State, Saturday
18. Florida State (6-1)
BUZZ: FSU is steaming along despite rather spotty play from QB Christian Ponder, who threw three picks and lost a fumble in a much-tougher-than-expected win over Boston College. NEXT: at North Carolina State, Oct. 28
19. South Carolina (4-2)
BUZZ: Gee, what do you know: Same old same old for the Gamecocks, who -- once again -- proved they couldn't live with success. NEXT: at Vanderbilt, Saturday
20. Arkansas (4-2)
BUZZ: All that talk about how Arkansas' defense had improved was shown to be hot air. But backup QB Tyler Wilson sure looks as if he has the goods. NEXT: vs. Ole Miss, Saturday
21. Virginia Tech (5-2)
BUZZ: That two-game losing streak to start the season sure seems like a long time ago. The offense is really clicking and the Hokies get to beat up on Duke next. NEXT: vs. Duke, Saturday
22. USC (5-2)
BUZZ: Matt Barkley quietly is putting together a monster season. He carved up Cal's defense like your Uncle Donnie carves up a Thanksgiving turkey. Now the Trojans get a week off to prepare for a visit from Oregon. NEXT: Oct. 30, vs. Oregon
23. West Virginia (5-1)
BUZZ: Coordinator Jeff Casteel oversees a defense that is quite nasty. That defense is the reason WVU is the team to beat in the Big East. NEXT: vs. Syracuse, Saturday
24. Texas (4-2)
BUZZ: The Longhorns arose from the dead and spanked Nebraska. And guess what: If they win out, the Longhorns have legit BCS at-large aspirations. NEXT: vs. Iowa State, Saturday
25. Georgia Tech (5-2)
BUZZ: The season hinges on the next three games -- at Clemson, at Virginia Tech and vs. Miami. Is Joshua Nesbitt ready to play some ball? NEXT: at Clemson, Saturday
26. Mississippi State (5-2)
BUZZ: The losses came to Auburn and LSU, both of whom are unbeaten. There's a gimme this week with UAB, but the closing stretch -- which includes games against Arkansas and Alabama -- is a tough one. NEXT: vs. UAB, Saturday
27. Air Force (5-2)
BUZZ: The run defense was shredded for the second week in a row, and that has to be bothersome with TCU next on the schedule. NEXT: at TCU, Saturday
28. Oregon State (3-3)
BUZZ: The Beavers found out that spotting the opponent a 21-0 lead isn't the way to go. Still, they fought back before losing in OT at Washington after a two-point conversion went awry. NEXT: vs. California, Oct. 30
29. Miami (4-2)
BUZZ: The fans are a little restless. A loss this week to Butch Davis would send them into a full-fledged frenzy. NEXT: vs. North Carolina, Saturday
30. North Carolina (4-2)
BUZZ: Lost in all the tumult and shouting about the NCAA investigation is that the Tar Heels still have a legit shot at the ACC title. NEXT: at Miami, Saturday
31. Michigan (5-2)
BUZZ: The defense, once again, was exposed. The offense, though, held up its part of the bargain against a tough Iowa defense. NEXT: at Penn State, Oct. 30
32. Notre Dame (4-3)
BUZZ: The Irish have lost twice in their past three meetings with Navy. Will Brian Kelly have better luck than Charlie Weis? NEXT: vs. Navy in East Rutherford, N.J., Saturday
33. N.C. State (5-2)
BUZZ: The defense had a lot of problems with East Carolina's passing attack. Plus, when QB Russell Wilson isn't sharp, the team as a whole suffers. NEXT: vs. Florida State, Oct. 28
34. Nevada (6-1)
BUZZ: Pardon the Wolf Pack if they don't want to show you pictures from their weekend visit to Hawaii. Nevada fell behind 17-0 and never could truly get back into it in losing to the Warriors. NEXT: vs. Utah State, Nov. 30
35. Northwestern (5-1)
BUZZ: Northwestern has an opportunity to prove itself when the unbeaten Spartans come calling this weekend. NEXT: vs. Michigan State, Saturday
36. Florida (4-3)
BUZZ: An off-week comes at a needed time for the Gators, who still are searching for an offensive clue. The defense is showing some cracks, too. NEXT: vs. Georgia in Jacksonville, Oct. 30
37. California (3-3)
BUZZ: You couldn't blame Cal officials if they asked the Pac-10 office if USC could come off the schedule for ... well, forever. A 42-0 first-half hole? Embarrassing. NEXT: vs. Arizona State, Saturday
38. UCLA (3-3)
BUZZ: UCLA's running game should have some success against Oregon. But can the Bruins' defense hold up against the expected onslaught? NEXT: at Oregon, Thursday
39. Kansas State (5-1)
BUZZ: The Wildcats recovered from a beatdown administered by Nebraska by whipping up on their in-state rival. Too bad Kansas isn't on the schedule every week, huh? NEXT: at Baylor, Saturday
40. East Carolina (4-2)
BUZZ: First-year coach Ruffin McNeill and his staff have turned the Pirates from a run-oriented, defense-first team to a bombs-away, what's defense? squad. NEXT: vs. Marshall, Saturday
41. Washington (3-3)
BUZZ: The Huskies are coming off a nice victory over Oregon State. Can they show some consistency? They haven't won two in a row this season. NEXT: at Arizona, Saturday
42. San Diego State (4-2)
BUZZ: The Aztecs are darned close to being unbeaten. Both their losses, including a setback at Missouri, have come by three points. NEXT: at New Mexico, Saturday
43. Kentucky (4-3)
BUZZ: Two weeks ago, the Wildcats had a shot to upset Auburn but fell short. This week, they rallied and pulled the upset against South Carolina. Can they follow that up with a victory over the Bulldogs? NEXT: vs. Georgia, Saturday
44. Texas A&M (3-3)
BUZZ: A&M had been in every game until last week's, a home beatdown administered by Missouri. It's vital for the Aggies that they bounce back strong against a bad Kansas team. NEXT: at Kansas, Saturday
45. Illinois (3-3)
BUZZ: The Illini play three of their next four at home, and all three home games are eminently winnable. NEXT: vs. Indiana, Saturday
46. Penn State (3-3)
BUZZ: The Nittany Lions had last week off to ponder their two-game losing streak. If that streak somehow reaches three, the season will have spiraled out of control. NEXT: at Minnesota, Saturday
47. Northern Illinois (5-2)
BUZZ: NIU has clear sailing to a 10-2 finish and a spot in the MAC title game. NEXT: vs. Central Michigan, Saturday
48. Temple (5-2)
BUZZ: Temple's defense has been surprisingly mediocre, but it may not matter considering how rancid the rest of the MAC has been this season. NEXT: at Buffalo, Saturday
49. Clemson (3-3)
BUZZ: You wonder how this season would've gone had Clemson been able to hold a lead and won at Auburn in Game 3. NEXT: vs. Georgia Tech, Saturday
50. Texas Tech (3-3)
BUZZ: The Red Raiders can't run and they can't stop anyone. That is not Tommy Tuberville football. NEXT: at Colorado, Saturday
51. SMU (4-3)
BUZZ: Before the season, Saturday's game looked as if it would decide the C-USA West title. Now, with Houston's injury situation, the division title is SMU's to lose. NEXT: vs. Houston, Saturday
52. Arizona State (3-3)
BUZZ: Saturday's contest will be the last of a three-game set away from home. It also is vital in the Sun Devils' quest for a bowl bid. NEXT: at California, Saturday
53. Navy (4-2)
BUZZ: The rushing attack hasn't been as potent as in years past, and that could be a problem this week. NEXT: vs. Notre Dame in East Rutherford, N.J., Saturday
54. UCF (4-2)
BUZZ: UCF is getting by with a good rushing attack and a stout defense. Eventually, though, the Golden Knights -- who have just three TD passes -- are going to need to throw to win. NEXT: vs. Rice, Saturday
55. Southern Miss (5-2)
BUZZ: The Golden Eagles have scored at least 40 in three consecutive outings and could do so again in their next game. NEXT: vs. UAB, Oct. 30
56. Ole Miss (3-3)
BUZZ: Houston Nutt still isn't well-liked in Arkansas, so he can expect to hear a few choice expletives when he takes the field in Fayetteville. NEXT: at Arkansas, Saturday
57. Baylor (5-2)
BUZZ: The Bears have scored at least 30 points in every game but one, and that was a 10-point outing against a mighty stingy TCU defense. NEXT: vs. Kansas State, Saturday
58. Pittsburgh (3-3)
BUZZ: Despite the uneven start, Pitt looks like West Virginia's main challenger for the Big East title. The Panthers just need to get their running game cranked up. NEXT: vs. Rutgers, Saturday
59. Hawaii (5-2)
BUZZ: The defense is coming off its best showing of the season; the Warriors held offense-minded Nevada to 293 total yards. NEXT: at Utah State, Saturday
60. Cincinnati (3-3)
BUZZ: QB Zach Collaros quietly is putting together a nice season -- 17 TD passes and just three picks. He has thrown at least three TD passes in each of the past four games. NEXT: vs. USF, Friday
61. Purdue (4-2)
BUZZ: One of the teams involved in this week's game is unbeaten in Big Ten play -- and it's not Ohio State. Are the Boilermakers for real? NEXT: at Ohio State, Saturday
62. Iowa State (3-4)
BUZZ: The Cyclones have given up 158 points in their past three games. Heck, that means that even the Longhorns could have some offensive success this week. NEXT: at Texas, Saturday
63. Colorado (3-3)
BUZZ: RB Rodney Stewart has been solid, but the passing attack remains a problem. The Buffs have just six TD passes and have thrown seven picks. NEXT: vs. Texas Tech, Saturday
64. Georgia (3-4)
BUZZ: Despite the awful start, the Bulldogs are in the hunt for the SEC East title, thanks to back-to-back wins over the division's door mats (Tennessee and Vanderbilt). Staying in the hunt depends on winning this week, of course. NEXT: at Kentucky, Saturday
65. Connecticut (3-3)
BUZZ: This week's game basically is a must-win contest for the Huskies if they want to stay alive in the Big East race. NEXT: at Louisville, Saturday
66. Boston College (2-4)
BUZZ: BC has to find a pulse on offense. Way too much pressure is being placed on an overworked defense. NEXT: vs. Maryland, Saturday
67. Maryland (4-2)
BUZZ: Weird stat of the week. Maryland is No. 1 in the nation in punt returns at 24.6 yards per attempt. But the Terps are 119th in kickoff returns at 17.8 per attempt. NEXT: at Boston College, Saturday
68. Louisville (3-3)
BUZZ: RB Bilal Powell is a good one and a big reason Louisville has become competent offensively. The Cardinals' three losses have been by eight, seven and seven points. NEXT: vs. Connecticut, Saturday
69. Houston (3-3)
BUZZ: You want to know how badly the Cougars miss QB Case Keenum? They're coming off a loss to Rice, whom they beat 73-14 last season with Keenum. NEXT: at SMU, Saturday
70. Indiana (4-2)
BUZZ: The Hoosiers dispatched Arkansas State, their final non-conference foe of the season, this past Saturday. Now they need to focus on winning two league games to get to a bowl. NEXT: at Illinois, Saturday
71. Troy (4-2)
BUZZ: The Trojans have lost twice -- by three to unbeaten Oklahoma State and by one to (ugh) UAB. Redshirt freshman QB Corey Robinson is having a solid season. NEXT: at Louisiana-Monroe, Oct. 30
72. Tulsa (4-3)
BUZZ: Tulsa's pass defense is beyond bad. The Golden Hurricane are giving up 330.1 passing yards per game, which is -- by an astounding 34 yards per game -- the most in the nation. NEXT: at Notre Dame, Oct. 30
73. Rutgers (4-2)
BUZZ: One thing has become obvious about the Scarlet Knights this season -- they win ugly. Four of their final six contests are on the road. NEXT: at Pittsburgh, Saturday
74. Syracuse (4-2)
BUZZ: Because the Orange have two wins over FCS programs, they need to get to seven wins overall to go to a bowl. NEXT: at West Virginia, Saturday
75. USF (3-3)
BUZZ: First-year coach Skip Holtz probably is thinking, "Hey, I coach a team in Florida. How come I don't have any playmakers?" NEXT: at Cincinnati, Friday
76. Tennessee (2-4)
BUZZ: Tennessee had last week off to prepare for the Tide. But unless Vols coaches were successful in getting Peyton Manning to come back for one more game, it's not going to matter. NEXT: vs. Alabama, Saturday
77. UTEP (5-2)
BUZZ: The Miners could have clinched bowl eligibility this past Saturday. Alas, they fell to UAB. It would behoove UTEP to win this week if it wants to make sure it goes bowling. NEXT: vs. Tulane, Saturday
78. Fresno State (4-2)
BUZZ: The Bulldogs play three of their next four on the road, and the lone home game in that stretch is against Nevada. NEXT: at San Jose State, Oct. 23
79. BYU (2-5)
BUZZ: TCU toyed with the Cougars last week, sort of like a cat toys with a mouse. But now that the big, bad Horned Frogs are out of the way, BYU gets back to playing schools its own size, and that means a bowl bid is a distinct possibility. NEXT: vs. Wyoming, Saturday
80. Army (4-3)
BUZZ: Yes, the Black Knights squandered a chance for a win against Rutgers last week. But they still look to be in great shape to get to six victories, which would send them to the EagleBank Bowl. NEXT: vs. VMI, Oct. 30
81. Toledo (4-3)
BUZZ: The Rockets look to be the main challenger to Northern Illinois for the MAC West title. Second-year coach Tim Beckman has done a nice job getting the program back on track. NEXT: vs. Ball State, Saturday
82. Miami of Ohio (4-3)
BUZZ: The RedHawks can't run the ball, but sophomore QB Zac Dysert sure can wing it. One season after going 1-11, Miami has a legit shot at the MAC East title if it wins Saturday. NEXT: vs. Ohio U., Saturday
83. Virginia (2-4)
BUZZ: Both Cavaliers victories have come over FCS teams. Good news for UVa is that this week's opponent basically is a FCS team, too. NEXT: vs. Eastern Michigan, Saturday
84. Ohio U. (4-3)
BUZZ: Yes, the Bobcats have four wins. But one is over a FCS team and the other three victims have combined for two wins. NEXT: at Miami (Ohio), Saturday
85. Vanderbilt (2-4)
BUZZ: Last week, Vandy blasted Eastern Michigan 52-6. This week, it was back to reality: a visit to Georgia and a 43-0 loss. NEXT: vs. South Carolina, Saturday
86. Wyoming (2-5)
BUZZ: The Cowboys have played unbeatens Boise State, TCU and Utah. The damage: Three losses by a combined 126-12. Not surprisingly, the Cowboys are last in total offense and 117th in total defense. NEXT: at BYU, Saturday
87. Louisiana Tech (3-4)
BUZZ: Coach Sonny Dykes' Bulldogs have a modest two-game winning streak. Getting to three really would be something, considering the next game is at Boise State. NEXT: at Boise State, Oct. 26
88. Idaho (3-3)
BUZZ: The Vandals' offense is nothing if not consistent. The point totals from the past four games: 30, 34, 33 and 35. NEXT: vs. New Mexico State, Saturday
89. Wake Forest (2-5)
BUZZ: The Demon Deacons are off this week and they need to find a way to resuscitate their defense, which is 111th overall. NEXT: at Maryland, Oct. 30
90. Colorado State (2-5)
BUZZ: Colorado State has discovered a rushing attack. Now it's time to improve the secondary (14 TD passes allowed, with just two picks). NEXT: at Utah, Saturday
91. Utah State (2-4)
BUZZ: For the Aggies to have any shot Saturday, QB Diondre Borel must outplay Hawaii counterpart Bryant Moniz. NEXT: vs. Hawaii, Saturday
92. Tulane (2-4)
BUZZ: Sophomore QB Ryan Griffin threw for 412 yards this past Saturday. Was it a sign that he's growing into the job -- or a sign that Tulsa's pass defense is absolutely atrocious? We lean to the latter explanation. NEXT: at UTEP, Saturday
93. Middle Tennessee (2-4)
BUZZ: Talk about incremental progress. Two weeks ago, MTSU lost 42-13 to Troy. This past Saturday, it was 42-14, to Georgia Tech. NEXT: vs. Louisiana-Monroe, Saturday
94. Louisiana-Lafayette (2-4)
BUZZ: Four of the Ragin' Cajuns' final six games are on the road. ULL usually runs the ball well, but that hasn't been the case this season. NEXT: vs. Western Kentucky, Saturday
95. Arkansas State (2-5)
BUZZ: The offense is fine, but the defense has issues. Arkansas State has given up fewer than 31 points just twice -- and won both those games. NEXT: vs. Florida Atlantic, Saturday
96. UAB (2-4)
BUZZ: UAB lost in double-overtime at Tennessee on Sept. 25. This week, the Blazers get another shot at an SEC team. NEXT: at Mississippi State, Saturday
97. Kansas (2-4)
BUZZ: The Jayhawks have been outscored 114-14 in their past two games. Was this program really in the Orange Bowl after the 2007 season? NEXT: vs. Texas A&M, Saturday
98. Buffalo (2-4)
BUZZ: Between the Bulls and the NFL's Bills, the citizens of Buffalo have seen an awful lot of ... well, awful football this season. NEXT: vs. Temple, Saturday
99. Washington State (1-6)
BUZZ: The Cougars fell by 17 to Arizona this past Saturday. That makes it three weeks in a row that they've lost by 20 or fewer points, which -- believe it or not -- is a positive. NEXT: at Stanford, Saturday
100. Minnesota (1-6)
BUZZ: Tim Brewster is out as coach, which shouldn't surprise anybody. But did athletic director Joel Maturi, when asked about potential replacements, really need to say, "You're not following Vince Lombardi here?" NEXT: vs. Penn State, Saturday
101. Rice (2-5)
BUZZ: The Owls are coming off an upset of a depleted Houston team, which should make them feel good. But the next three games are on the road, which should make them apprehensive. NEXT: at UCF, Saturday
102. Kent State (2-4)
BUZZ: The defense has been good. The offense, on the other hand, has been pitiful. NEXT: at Bowling Green, Saturday
103. Western Michigan (2-4)
BUZZ: Don't let the bad record fool you. With the exception of an Oct. 30 game against Northern Illinois, Western can beat everybody else left on its schedule and finish 7-5. NEXT: at Akron, Saturday
104. Florida International (2-4)
BUZZ: All four losses have come to Big Six conference opponents, and if FIU can win its next game, the Panthers will have to be taken seriously in the Sun Belt race. NEXT: at Florida Atlantic, Oct. 30
105. Bowling Green (1-6)
BUZZ: The Falcons' problems are easy to identify. They can't run, ranking last in the nation in rushing offense, or stop the run, as they're 118th in rushing defense. NEXT: vs. Kent State, Saturday
106. UNLV (1-6)
BUZZ: When you lose by 33 to Colorado State, which is what happened to the Rebels this past Saturday, your defense needs a lot of work. NEXT: vs. TCU, Oct. 30
107. Louisiana-Monroe (3-3)
BUZZ: ULM trailed winless Western Kentucky by 17 in the fourth quarter this past Saturday. Evidently realizing they would be the butt of numerous jokes if Western were to snap its 25-game losing streak, the Warhawks woke up in the fourth quarter to get the win. NEXT: at Middle Tennessee, Oct. 23
108. Duke (1-5)
BUZZ: The Blue Devils, once again, are struggling. Is anyone really surprised? NEXT: at Virginia Tech, Saturday
109. Marshall (1-5)
BUZZ: In DE Vinny Curry and LB Mario Harvey, the Herd have legitimate stars. They just don't have enough complementary talent. NEXT: at East Carolina, Saturday
110. Memphis (1-6)
BUZZ: Having fun with math: The Tigers are 116th nationally in scoring offense and 115th in scoring defense. That's not good. NEXT: vs. Houston, Oct. 30
111. North Texas (1-6)
BUZZ: Coach Todd Dodge was on the hot seat entering the season, but is it fair to fire a coach who has seen three quarterbacks lost to season-ending injuries? NEXT: at Western Kentucky, Oct. 30
112. Florida Atlantic (1-4)
BUZZ: "Man, I need a new suitcase." The Owls' game this week will be their fifth away from home this season. NEXT: at Arkansas State, Saturday
113. Ball State (2-5)
BUZZ: When you lose to Eastern Michigan -- at home, no less -- you definitely have issues. NEXT: at Toledo, Saturday
114. Central Michigan (2-5)
BUZZ: CMU has been to four consecutive bowls. Good news for CMU fans about this year's team is that the money they put away for a bowl trip this season now can be used on other things. NEXT: at Northern Illinois, Saturday
115. Eastern Michigan (1-6)
BUZZ: Give it up for the Eagles, who snapped an 18-game losing streak with a victory over Ball State. It was the first win as a head coach for second-year man Ron English. NEXT: at Virginia, Saturday
116. New Mexico State (1-5)
BUZZ: Well, that one-game winning streak ended about as soon as it began, and the Aggies were left wishing they could play New Mexico every week. NEXT: at Idaho, Saturday
117. San Jose State (1-6)
BUZZ: The Spartans were outscored just 7-0 by Boise in the second half. Of course, the first half was 41-0, but, hey, you take small victories whenever they occur. NEXT: vs. Fresno State, Saturday
118. Western Kentucky (0-6)
BUZZ: The Hilltoppers looked ready to snap their 25-game losing streak by taking a 24-7 fourth-quarter lead. Alas, Western gave up four four-quarter TDs and lost by five to Louisiana-Monroe. NEXT: at Louisiana-Lafayette, Saturday
119. New Mexico (0-6)
BUZZ: Do you remember the NBC show "The Misadventures of Sherriff Lobo," which was on from 1979-81? It was bad -- sort of like the football Lobos. NEXT: vs. San Diego State, Saturday
120. Akron (0-7)
BUZZ: LB Brian Wagner, who is averaging 10.6 tackles per game to rank 14th in the nation in that category, is one of the few bright spots for the Zips. NEXT: vs. Western Michigan, Saturday
