Torres will miss rest of season

Texas Tech sophomore wide receiver Alex Torres will likely miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury he sustained during the Red Raiders' loss to Texas A&M on Saturday.

Torres' knee did not show signs of being injured until the team returned to the practice field on Sunday, Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said Monday.

"He had no problems after the game," Tuberville explained. "He's been beat up all year long. He came to practice yesterday, the training room and he just had some swelling. (Surgery) will happen tomorrow."

Torres led Tech in receptions as a freshman in 2009, but was limited for the first few weeks of this season with a back injury. After catching just 10 passes for 60 yards in the Red Raiders' first four games, Torres logged 22 receptions for 325 yards in their last four.

"Hate it for him, because he had such a great spring and two-a-days," Tuberville said. "(Torres was injured) before we started the season, he never got 100 percent healthy."

Torres is one reception away from the 100th of his career. He has caught 99 passes for 1,198 yards and nine touchdowns over the past two seasons.
