Injury ends Oregon career for Costa

University of Oregon senior quarterback Nate Costa will miss the remainder of the season as a result of the injury to his right knee suffered in the third quarter of last Saturday's 53-16 win over Washington.

Costa has served as the Ducks' reserve quarterback and primary holder on placements the past two seasons, and has been invaluable as one of the team leaders. The injury occurred while Costa was running toward the sidelines following a mishandled snap of a field goal attempt.

It's the fourth knee injury incurred by the Hilmar, Calif., standout - his third in his five-career collegiate career - but his first to his right knee.

He is scheduled to undergo surgery sometime within the next two weeks.

Costa finishes his collegiate career having completed 50 of 71 passes (.704) for 556 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. In addition, he rushed for 195 yards and three scores. He enjoyed his best game of his career this year at Washington State, coming off the bench for an injured Darron Thomas to complete 13 of 15 passes for 151 yards and one score in addition to running for an 18-yard TD.

He started one game a year ago in a 24-10 win at UCLA.
