Goulbourne leads Vandy past ASU

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Vanderbilt had a tough time shaking Donald Sims and his Appalachain State teammates, but Lance Goulbourne made huge baskets down the stretch in helping the Commodores to an 86-73 victory at Memorial Gym on Saturday afternoon.

VU led just 73-69 with 4:45 to play after Omar Carter's four-point play, but Goulbourne answered with a dunk on the next Vanderbilt possession to start an 11-0 run for the Commodores over the next three minutes.

Goulbourne ended the run with a fast-break dunk with 1:32 left for the last points in the run, and also hit a pair of free throws in-between as part of a career-high 17 points.

John Jenkins added 21, and Festus Ezeli, a career-high 18, as VU ran its record to 5-1.

Sims had a game-high 27 for ASU. The senior guard came in averaging 26.3 per game, and was 9-of-19 from the field on Saturday.
