Vanderbilt tops No.24 Georgia in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Vanderbilt got 18 points from John Jenkins and Festus Ezeli, and 15 from Jeffery Taylor, as the Commodores knocked off No. 24 Georgia by a 73-66 score at Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

The Commodores took the lead from the game's first possession, and although VU was never able to extend its lead beyond 11, they never so much as allowed the Bulldogs to get even, either. The closest Georgia got in the second half came with 10:34 left, when Nashville native Gerald Robinson hit a pair of free throws to make the score 56-53.

But in the next two minutes VU extended the lead back to double-digits when Jenkins contributed a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer, and Ezeli added a field goal, and Georgia never got closer than six again.

VU led by as much as 11 in the first half, and led 40-32 at the break.

Taylor led both teams with 11 points at half, which included a one-handed, highlight-reel dunk off an inbounds pass.

Robinson had 20 for Georgia, with Travis Leslie adding 21 and Trey Thompkins scoring 13.

Leslie and Thompkins had 13 rebounds each, with 10 of Leslie's coming on the offensive end. Ezeli added 10 boards for VU, as did Lance Goulbourne.
