Swilling transfers to Tech from St. Joseph's
right here on BleedTechBlue.com as a possibile transfer, Patrick Swilling, Jr. is now enrolled at Louisiana Tech. Swilling received his housing assignment this morning in Ruston, La.As first reported
The New Orleans native played his high school basketball at Brother Martin High School and went to the 5A state title game and earned the tournament MVP title.
Swilling's father, Patrick Swilling, Sr., a linebacker was drafted out of Georgia Tech in the 1986 NFL draft in the third round. Swilling Sr. had an NFL career that spanned from 1986 - 1998 and three different teams, the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders. A 5-time pro bowler, 2-time first-team all pro selection, 2-time second-team all pro selection and even the 1991 defensive player of the year in the NFL.
Swilling Jr. had many options out of high school by the likes of Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Tulane and Virginia to have the opportunity to follow in his father's footsteps and play football. However, he decided to play his favorite sport, basketball. He signed with St. Joseph's in order to play with his AAU teammate Langston Galloway.
At St. Joseph's, Swilling averaged 1.4 points and 11.5 minutes a game. Detailed stats on Swilling can be found here.
According to an article on NewOrleans.com, Swilling will land at either Tech or Central Florida.
After sitting out a year to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Swilling will be eligible to play for the Bulldogs.
