Clayborn headed to Tampa Bay
Adrian Clayborn has already played a football game in Raymond James Stadium. That was on January 1, 2009 when Iowa defeated South Carolina in the Outback Bowl. Now he will be playing plenty more in the future. On Thursday night, the former Hawkeye defensive end was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 20th pick in the 1st round of the NFL Draft.
"Tampa was where I wanted to be and I'm glad I got them. I can't wait to be a Buc," Clayborn said on ESPN after his selection.
Buccaneer Head Coach Raheem Morris could hardly contain his excitement after selecting Clayborn with their first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
"Obviously we are really excited about getting Adrian Clayborn," Morris said. "He brings a Rambo type mentality to your football team, a guy who is going to not only hunt the quarterback, but anyone who has the football."
Clayborn is the 5th Iowa player selected in the first round since 2003. Last year offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga was a first round pick of the Green Bay Packers. Other first round picks in the Ferentz era include Dallas Clark, Robert Gallery, and Chad Greenway.
He is also the 40th draft pick during Kirk Ferentz tenure at Iowa and that number is expected to grow in the next two days of the NFL Draft.
