Return visits for Humes

Hoover, Ala., native Chris Humes took in unofficial visits to Mississippi State and Alabama last month. Later this month, the Spain Park High School cornerback prospect will make return trips to those campuses along with other SEC stops.

"I haven't been to any camps of late," said the 6-foot-1 and 195-pound Humes. "I visited Mississippi State and then our team had a 7-on-7 tournament at Alabama. But this month, I am going back to Alabama and Mississippi State and then I am also going to Ole Miss, LSU and Georgia."

Humes, who had 32 tackles and five interceptions last year, currently holds offers from MSU, Auburn, Kentucky, Louisville, Cincinnati and UAB along with the interest from Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Georgia.

"I haven't gotten any new offers lately," said Humes. "And I would say Mississippi State and Alabama stay in touch with me the most. But everyone is even and I am not close to a decision. To be honest, I really don't know when I might decide and I am just taking my time with recruiting. That is why I want to take these other visits to get a better idea of the future."

And with MSU and Alabama, Humes said he notices some similiarities in the two SEC West rivals.

"Mississippi State and Alabama both have really good programs and good coaches," said Humes. "I have a good bond with their coaches and both also have good schools for my major, which will be some type of business major. I look forward to going back to both places this month. I only visited Mississippi State so I really want to go there and have a really good performance at Big Dawg Camp."

More importantly, Humes is just glad to be back preparing for his senior season and getting back on the field. He missed most of spring drills with an ankle injury but is now feeling like his "old self".

"It feels great and I feel back to my old self and I am 100 percent," said Humes. "I have mainly been working on my speed this summer and working on different defensive schemes. I want to keep learning more defensive schemes and I want to become more of a leader."
