Interesting stats: Jackets 'O' creating buzz

Each week during the college football season, we look at some statistics involving individuals and/or teams that we find intriguing. Here is this week's version:

Georgia Tech ran for 604 yards and totaled 768 yards in blasting Kansas on Saturday. As impressive as those totals were, they pale in comparison to the NCAA records in each category. The single-game rushing record is Oklahoma's 768 against Kansas State in 1988. The single-game total yards record is 1,021 by Houston against SMU in 1989 (the first year after the death penalty for the Mustangs, and then-Houston coach John Jenkins had no shame in piling it on).

Tech's rushing total against Kansas is more than 89 teams have gained this season.

Our weekly Case Keenum update: He now has 117 career TD passes; that's 17 shy of tying the NCAA career record owned by former Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell. Keenum also has 1,199 completions and 14,705 passing yards, putting him well within reach of the NCAA career records of 1,403 (Harrell) and 17,072 (Hawaii's Timmy Chang), respectively.

Oklahoma WR Ryan Broyles had seven receptions in the Sooners' win at Florida State, giving him 287 career receptions. Unless he gets hurt, he is a lock to break the FBS career receptions mark. The current record-holder is former Purdue WR Taylor Stubblefield, who had 316 catches from 2001-04. Stubblefield currently is the wide receiver coach at Central Michigan.

Florida committed 16 penalties (for 150 yards) in its victory over Tennessee, and the Gators now have committed 34 penalties on the season, four more than anyone else (Iowa State has the second-most). At the other end of the spectrum, East Carolina has committed three penalties in two games and Navy has committed five in three.

Washington sophomore QB Keith Price is tied for the national lead (with Bowling Green's Matt Schilz) with 11 TD passes. The single-season high in TD passes for Jake Locker, Price's predecessor at quarterback, was 21, meaning Price already is more than halfway there.

Through three games, Penn State has zero TD passes and BYU has zero rushing TDs.
