Moseley to start against LSU
Clint Moseley would not want it any other way.Auburn quarterback
When the sophomore makes the first start of his college career, it will come against the No. 1 team in the country. The 5-2 Tigers travel to Baton Rouge, La. Saturday to face undefeated LSU.
Moseley was named Auburn's new starting quarterback after going into the second half of the Florida game last week and completing 4-of-7 passes for 90 yards in a 17-6 win.
Moseley replaces former starter Barrett Trotter.
"It was all surreal at first," Moseley said of learning he was the new starting quarterback. "To finally get what I've been working so hard for and dreamed of getting is the best feeling.
"It was an awesome moment for me."
Auburn coach Gene Chizik made the announcement to the public Tuesday during his weekly press conference.
"We have been struggling on offense the last few games and Clint came in last week and provided a spark," said Chizik. "We feel like this is the best decision."
Moseley, from Leroy, Ala., said he feels the same way, but he has to. He's a quarterback.
"Playing quarterback, you have to think you are the best," Moseley said. "That's just how it is. I expected (to be named the starter) the whole time, but that's because I'm a competitor."
Getting to start against the country's top-ranked team made the news more enjoyable for him.
"LSU is probably the best defense that I have ever faced, but that's why you come to Auburn," said Moseley. "That's why you play in the SEC, have the big dreams.
"The No. 1 team in the country is a great way to start off. They are a great defense. No doubt about it. And I've heard stories about how loud (LSU's Tiger Stadium) is, but what bigger stage could I get to play on, to get to start on?"
There isn't one. Auburn-LSU will be televised nationally by CBS. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
Moseley can't wait.
"I'm so lucky, so blessed," he said. "I feel good about how I've been preparing, but I have to take it to the next level."
