Trojans sign five-star from Florida

USC's signing day got off to a huge start with the official announcement Wednesday that Tampa (Fla.) five-star wide out Nelson Agholor would be headed west to play for USC. Agholor, who was rated the country's No. 1 athlete in the original Rivals100, made his announcement on ESPNU.

"Southern California," said Agholor. "I'm really feeling some great people over there. I love the opportunity to play along side Marqise Lee and Robert Woods. I'll also have an opportunity to catch passes from a Heisman candidate in Matt Barkley next year."

The Trojans last wide receiver from Tampa was Mike Williams. At 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, Agholor is no where near as big as Williams in size, but his commitment is even bigger.

Although the Trojans have All-American receivers Robert Woods and Marqise Lee in the fold, Agholor brings depth and a willingness to learn and grow within the system. That attitude drew him closer to the current Trojan players, including Woods who hosted Agholor on his official visit to USC Jan. 27.

After returning from the USC Rising Stars Camp last summer, Agholor called USC his dream school. Lane Kiffin did in fact offer Agholor a verbal scholarship before any other head coach. That scholarship offer came just a week after arriving at USC from Tennessee.

Agholor, who plays receiver, running back and safety, becomes - at least on paper - the heir apparent to Woods. However, as a senior, Agholor was a star rusher gaining 1,983 yards and 28 touchdowns for Berkeley Prep.

USC lost two wide outs to transfers in the off season, and currently only has five receivers on the roster. Agholor fits a need for USC in the future, but fits USC as a student-athlete today.
