Cornerback Hall won't return for sophomore season

Freshman cornerback Daylen Hall has been dismissed from the UK football team for an unspecified violation of team rules, UK spokesman Tony Neely confirmed on Monday.

Hall, a product of Louisville St. Xavier High School who played mostly on special teams in 2011, would have been a sophomore for the 2012 season. He played in nine games, assisting on one tackle in the season opener against Western Kentucky. He also returned one kickoff for 20 yards against South Carolina.

He's the third cornerback to leave the team since August. Jerrell Priester left the team in fall camp before the start of his sophomore season and Dale Trimble, a redshirt freshman, left the team at the end of the season.

Hall was expected to compete for playing time at cornerback following the graduation of both of the Wildcats' starters, Randall Burden and Anthony Mosley. Junior Cartier Rice, the No. 3 corner last year, is the most experienced returning player at that position. Freshman Eric Dixon played in 10 games as part of the Wildcats' nickel package.

Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips has also discussed moving running back Marcus Caffey, who redshirted in 2011, to corner. Senior Martavius Neloms, who moved from cornerback to start nine games at free safety in 2011, could also be a candidate to move back to corner.
