CB Jonathan Rose will not return
- - Auburn rising sophomore cornerback Jonathan Rose will not return to the Tigers' football team in 2012, AuburnSports.com has learned.
Rose participated in spring practice, but was sent home for the summer, head coach Gene Chizik confirmed during SEC Media Days last week.
Rose has been granted his release and will transfer. The reason for Rose's departure is for "personal reasons".
"He's one of the best kids I've ever coached in terms of being a good kid," Leeds High School coach Keith Etheridge said. "Auburn has been great to me and the kids I've coached. I have a lot of respect for Auburn University and the coaches and I have a good relationship with them, they are a class act.
"Jonathan comes from a great family and great people. He's always been a great kid, I can't say enough good things about him, and the same goes for the Auburn football program and the coaching staff. They have to do what's best for Auburn and Jonathan."
Rose was ranked the No. 7 cornerback and No. 112 overall prospect in the nation in the 2011 class. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Rose was a U.S. Army All-American out of Leeds High School, ultimately signing with Auburn over Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee and a host of other schools. He enrolled early in January of 2011.
Rose played in nine games as a true freshman last season and recorded two tackles. Reports from spring practice were positive surrounding Rose's development.
No decision has been made regarding Rose's short- or long-term future beyond Auburn.
