Schultz picks up a major offer

About six months ago, before Bingham High School (South Jordan, Utah) class of 2014 tight end Dalton Schultz saw his recruitment really pick up steam, Schultz was asked by his high school coach Dave Peck to identify a college of interest.

"He told all of us if there's a certain college that we feel that is one that's where we want to go that we tell him," Schultz said. "I just kind of went up and told him that hey, I want to go to Stanford and it kind of all started from there."

On Thursday, Stanford reciprocated Schultz's interested in a major way. A month after the 6-foot-5 tight end starred at the Cardinal's Friday Night Lights camp, the Cardinal extended Schultz a scholarship offer.

"I had a talk with Coach Anderson last night and he said he was pretty sure they were going to offer me a full ride," Schultz said. "But he had to talk to Coach Shaw because apparently Shaw was out doing media stuff for the Pac-12. And so he got back today and Coach Anderson talked with him and he said yeah, they were going to go ahead and offer me a full ride."

Schultz was elated to receive the news.

"Honestly, it feels amazing to kind of just get that one out of the way and know that I can go to Stanford pretty much for free and it's amazing," Schultz said. "I feel like I'm still in a dream right now. It was great."

Still, while clearly excited about the Cardinal offer, Schultz isn't ready to narrow down his list of schools or make a decision just yet. Schultz has offers from several other top-notch programs (Cal, Utah, Colorado and BYU), as well as interest from Oklahoma and Arizona State, and doesn't want to close the door on any college opportunities.

"I still want to remain open-minded about all of the things scholarship wise," Schultz said. "I've heard all the stories of people committing too early and then having other offers that maybe things change, maybe coaches leave, it's really one of those things for me right now. But they're (Stanford) definitely up there. "

For the time being, recruiting will take a back seat to Schultz's upcoming football season. He doesn't have any more camps or trips scheduled for the remainder of the summer, and will instead focus on his junior year at Bingham.

"Right now it's just straight high school football," Schultz said. "We're all ready to make that run for the state championship this year."
