Gardner out along with others

The biggest question on many Sooners' minds over the last month has been whether or not junior college standout wide receiver Courtney Gardner will make his grades and arrive in Norman.

Today, Gardner tells SoonerScoop.com he will not be in Norman this fall as a member of the Oklahoma Sooner football team.

"I most likely would have got redshirted this year so I'm staying at Sierra College one more semester taking that one last class," Gardner texted SoonerScoop.com. "I'm leaving in (January)!"

Gardner cited the timeline of his online courses and his summer school courses for the reasoning behind his late struggles. He said the urgency and the difference in pulling online and traditional classes together just became too big of a hurdle to overcome.

Sources on the OU staff also confirmed to SoonerScoop.com Monday junior college offensive tackle Will Latu has failed to receive his junior college degree and his bid to become a Sooner has fallen short.

Unlike Gardner, Latu does not have a redshirt season available and it's unlikely he'll be able to transfer to any FBS school in 2012.

There was positive news on the eligibility front as sources confirmed again Monday junior college receiver Lacoltan Bester has been cleared to compete for the Sooners when practices begin on Friday in Norman.

Bob Stoops commented on Bester Monday afternoon.

"We're definitely excited about Lacoltan," said Stoops. "He's got size, speed, he's competitive and I'm excited about him. I think he's going to end up being a really good football player for us."

SoonerScoop.com also asked about an official roster released last Friday by the University of Oklahoma which included suspended receiver Jaz Reynolds as part of the Oklahoma football program.

"I don't know where that came from," said Stoops. "It wasn't from me."

When SoonerScoop.com reminded Stoops the roster came from his own university, he shrugged off the coincidence.

"A lot of things come from the university that are old mail," he responded. "You know what I mean?

"I haven't made any of those determinations yet. I will by Thursday when we're allowed to have 105 guys practice. I'll have that cleaned up by Wednesday. None of that has changed."

Out of everything Stoops has said on the subject of his suspended receivers, he has yet to rule out any of those players as potential members of his team in the future. The same held true Monday.

An OU source also told SoonerScoop.com Monday, redshirt freshman offensive linemen Dylan Dismuke will be placed on medical scholarship and be forced to give up his football career due to a knee injury.

Dismuke, had recently been moved from offensive tackle to guard and did not play during his freshmen season at OU in 2011.
