SAN FRANCISCO -- We're joined by old friend Danny Freisinger, the voice that brought you one of the most exciting calls in Cal sports history, on this week's edition of the Bear Republic Podcast, but of course, we're not talking baseball - we're talking pigskin.
Fall camp kicks off this weekend for the California football team, with players reporting on Friday and practice starting on Saturday with an afternoon session completely open to the media.
In our first hour, we go through the defense, position-by-position, detailing the strengths and weaknesses of the best defense in the Pac-12, two years running.
What does new addition Khairi Fortt bring to the table? Is he healthy enough to contribute right away? Who has the inside track to start at linebacker? How deep is the secondary? What can you expect from the defensive line? We answer those questions and more in our first segment.
[Q&A ON FORTT: BlueWhiteIllustrated Answers Questions About New Cal Addition]
Going Camping: Positional Previews:
In our second hour, we break down the offense, position-by-position. Which of the five incoming freshman wide receivers has a chance to break into the rotation? How does the offensive line stack up in the wake of the injury to Dominic Galas? Can some of the freshman offensive tackles make a play for first-team reps? How will the Bears utilize the tight ends? We answer those questions and more.
Go In-Depth With the Offense:
July was a big month for unofficial recruiting visits, with Cal hosting Terrell Newby, Luca Bruno, J.D. Hinnant, L.J. Moore and Cameron Walker, with more visits on tap for fall camp.
